Not sure if that helps much with documenting exsisting setups but at the very least setting up a coding system that is simple and flexable should give you a good foundation no matter how you choose to document. So if office 40 has 2 data, 1 voice and 1 fax line then each port on the patch panel and each of the jacks in the office itself were labeled as follows: D40.1, D40.2, V40.1, F40.1.
